K-12/College Education

Taylorsville’s K-12 education needs are served by the Smith County School District’s Taylorsville Attendance Center campus.

Taylorsville Attendance Center houses Taylorsville Elementary School, and Taylorsville High School, providing complete education, from Kindergarten through twelfth grade.


Taylorsville Elementary School offers standard academic fare plus special education and Scope Classes . 5th and 6th grade band, music classes, and an elementary Beta Club are available for students.

At Taylorsville High School, students are challenged by a strong academic curriculum and are able to participate in an excellent athletic program.  Other learning opportunities are also available to students in the form of Vocational/Technical/Agriculture courses, as well as music.

Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) has recognized Taylorsville High School for meeting or exceeding Adequate Yearly Progress in Math and English, as well as other academic indicators for the 2004-5 school year, and reports that student achievement at Taylorsville High School has been accelerated. THS principal Jeff Duvall accepted an achievement award from MDE on behalf of students and staff.

Taylorsville is well known for its athletic traditions and has a proud history of championship teams.
Sports offered at the high school are: football, baseball, boys and girls basketball, softball, fast pitch, boys and girls track, tennis, and cheerleading. Taylorsville has produced state championship teams in football, baseball, cheerleading and track.

Mississippi’s Secretary of State Eric Clark is a Taylorsville High School graduate and valedictorian. Jason Campbell, also a Taylorsville graduate, was Auburn’s quarterback and is now with the Washington Redskins.


Post High School Education

Jones County Junior College provides a valuable service for the people of Smith County. An Adult Education Center is located in the old national guard armory on Hiway 28 East of Taylorsville. Adult Education teacher is Merry Beth Tigert of Laurel. Enrollment continues to increase as citizens become aware of the services provided by the center.Among available services are GED preparation, work skills upgrades, and pre-employment preparation.
