Friends of the Library

We welcomed Mary Lou Cheatham to our October meeting. She has just published another book titled “Secret Promise” which takes place in Mississippi.  Her other books include Solomon’s Porch, Flavored with Love, The Collard Patch, Do You Know How God Loves You?, A Prayer of Nehemiah, and I’M Choking … But Life Moves On Along the Path of Grief.  Please go by the library to check out her books.  We will have another local author to be visiting the library in November.  Mrs. Carolyn Barr has just written her first children’s book titled “The Waiting Tree”.  She will have a book signing at the library November 13th at 3:30 P.M.   Please, come by the library and support our local authors.

Yard of the Month

The Yard of the Month has been awarded to Mitchell and Judy Sullivan.  Their driveway is lined with Little Gem Magnolias and Encore Azaleas.  A fall display of hay and an old gate is the backdrop for mums, a hand painted scarecrow and painted pumpkins by the Judy.

Garden Club News

The Taylorsville Garden Club has been busy this month with decorating for “Grillin and Chillin”.  We visited Mitchell Farms and used our pumpkins for decorations.  We are asking homeowners and business owners to clean up their properties and decorate for fall.   October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and we are selling chances on a ” Pink” basket for $2.00.  You may purchase your tickets at Trustmark Bank or from any garden club member.  The basket will be given away at “Grillin and Chillin” November 3rd.

Christmas Parade

The Taylorsville Christmas Parade will be held December 7th at 6:00 P.M.   The theme is “A Child’s Christmas” .  Please start making plans to enter our second nighttime parade.  So save the date and participate in this event.  More details will be forth coming later on about other events happening that night.  If you have any questions, please call town hall 601 785-6531.

We had four teams that consisted of local drivers and three members from different organizations throughout the state. Each team was assigned an area to visit and make an evaluation. After each team gave their evaluation, they came up with four areas that are positive assets : 1. Labor Force 2. Industry 3. Athletic Teams and 4. Traffic Count. I would like to thank Larry Kelly, Bucky Walker, Dora Blakeney and Hilda Powell for providing transportation for our guest to travel around Taylorsville. Also, the business owners and civic leaders who attended the open meeting that was held at the Town Hall.
