Woodmen of the World Donates Flags

The Town of Taylorsville has received six (6) American Flags and one (1) Ms Flag from Woodmen of the World. David and Gearoleen Gamble ,Woodmen of the World representatives, presented the flags to Chief Bobby Ainsworth and Mayor Rosalyn Glenn. The new flags will be used at Town Hall, Fire Station,Police Dept. and Baseball Fields. We appreciate the donation of the flags to the Town of Taylorsville.

Jail & Bail

Team Taylorsville’s Jail & Bail was a H U G E success. We were able to raise $1400.00 for the American Cancer Society. We were not fooling around on April Fool’s day having people arrested to fight the deadly disease of cancer. We want to thank everyone who donated to this worthy cause.

Pinebelt Mayor’s Association Meeting

The Pinebelt Mayor’s Association met March 29, 2011 at Taylorsville’s Town Hall. Our guest speaker was Taylorsville’s own Max Phillips who is running for Commissioner of Agricultural and Commerce. The mayors attending were Johnny Dupree- Hattiesburg, Hal Marx- Petal, Melvin Mack- Laurel, V.O. Smith- Collins, Charles Dumas- Prentiss, Joe Taylor- Waynesboro, Geolean Rayburn- Sumrall, Dave Nichols- Monticello and Rosalyn Glenn- Taylorsville. Everyone had a great time and enjoyed viewing our Town Hall.

The American Cancer Society is not fooling around! We want your money. On April 1, 2011 Team Taylorsville will send out warrants for your arrest, if you are on our "Most Wanted" list. These "jailbirds" are being charged for various crimes such as ; caring for the community, helping others, being involved in school activities, lending a helping hand and supporting "Relay for Life".

If you know anyone who fits this description, WE WANT THEM! Our guidelines are as follows:

1. The event will take place on April 1st starting at 10:00 A.M. until …
2. Arrest will only be made within town limits.
3. There is a $10.00 arrest fee.
4. You may begin the arrest process on March 23 and go through April 1st. You may call the Town Hall at
601 785-6532 or the Police Dept. at 601 785-6622.
5. If you are the "Jailbird" being arrested, you may pay $20.00 to avoid going to jail or pay $40.00 if you are brought in and locked up. Beware your mugshot might appear in the local paper.

Please help Team Taylorsville reach their goal in the fight against cancer. All proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society.

The Princess and the Green Hat

Team Taylorsville’s St. Patty’s Day Spring Fling Dance was a great success for Smith Co. Relay for Life. We had 43 children to attend the dance. The highlight of the evening was the crowning of the best Irish dancers. The vote was by secret ballot with Peyton Hetrick being presented with a Irish Princess sash and crown and Calvin Boyland receiving a green felt hat. Team Taylorsville’s members are:

Rosalyn Glenn, Hilda Powell, Patricia Blakeney, Tina Jordan , Janette Brewer and Marcy Jordan. Look in next week’s paper for our next event "Jail and Bail" for all the details.

Relay for Life

Relay for Life Team Taylorsville is having a St. Patty’s Spring Fling Dance on March 11, 2011 at the National Guard Armory in Taylorsville. Parents will be required to sign in their children at the door starting at 6 o’clock and sign out their children no later than 9 o’clock. Snacks can be purchased separately (cokes, chips and candy) for 50 cents each. A $5.00 donation per child is required for a fun time to start your Spring Break vacation. Be sure to wear something "GREEN" or you may get pinched. If you have any questions, call Town Hall at 601 785-6531.

Looking like spring!

“It is beginning to look like Spring with the daffodils and the Bradford pears in full bloom.The Taylorsville Garden Club planted the daffodils last year and they are more beautiful this year.

The Central Street project is headed into Phase II which is dealing with the Sewer System being updated. We appreciate your patience as this work continues to disrupt your daily routines.

Have you ever ask yourself that question, can I buy that in Taylorsville? With rising gasoline prices you may want to consider buying local. It helps everyone if you “Shop in Taylorsville”. According to the 2010 Census we lost 86 people. Our population now is 1255.

We are cleaning up the West Industrial Park site by having it bush hogged and a sign erected to attract new industries. Our present Industrial Park is getting a new sign with the help of the existing business owner’s paying for their name to be placed on the sign.

We need to display a positive image of our town at all times because you never know who is looking. Economic Development is needed everywhere but let’s start at home. Spend your money in Taylorsville.”

Children in Action

The "Children in Action" group from Fellowship Baptist Church needed a mission project to earn a World Mission badge. On February 19, 2011 they came to the walking track in Taylorsville to rake leaves and install a bird feeder. They did an outstanding job and we certainly appreciate all the hard work they did. Their adviser is Mrs. Sonja McDaniel.

Also, present were Mr. Kevin Amason and Mr. Darrel Temple. The children who participated in the World Mission event are Trevor Amason, Trenton Amason, Dawson Temple and Christian Duvall. Earlier in the week Mrs. Palmer’s class came and raked leaves as well. They plan to return and finish the clean-up of leaves. Thanks to all these young people for taken an interest in their community.

Christmas Dinner Food Drive

The Taylorsville Chamber of Commerce Christmas dinner food drive was a huge success. Friday, December 17th, chamber members along with volunteers came together at Grocery Depot . They assembled and distributed the food for twenty families in our local area.

This food drive was made possible by many individuals who donated along with the Taylorsville Chamber of Commerce, Grocery Depot, Bryant’s Meats, Cash Inc., Dr. Harper Clinic, Eaton & Martin Attorneys at Law, H & R Block, K & M Apartments, Magnolia State Bank, Perma Bright International, Westside Truck & Auto, Thompson Body Shop, Taylorsville Poultry Supply, Trustmark National Bank, Mays Service Center, Wilson’s of Mississippi, & Georgia Pacific LLC. Town Hall Open House

The dedication of Taylorsville’s new town hall was a great success! Former mayor Larry Kelly started the celebration with a ribbon cutting. Mayor Kelly was instrumental in obtaining a grant to fund construction of the new town hall. Mrs. Bonnie Vowell catered the “open house” event. Also helping were Hilda Powell, Janette Brewer, Margie Harper.
