Post Office Cleanup

The Taylorsville Garden Club provided pine straw for the National Honor Society students to refurbish the post office. Over the Easter holidays, the students worked for three hours pulling weeds, trimming shrubbery,cutting limbs and mowing.

Their sponsor, Mrs. Carolyn Palmer, furnished lunch for twenty three deserving kids. " We appreciate all the hard work that these students provided for their community", stated Dora Blakeney, President of the Taylorsville Garden Club.

Students helping for the day were Shannon Nicholson, Devin Sanford, Chanah Jones, Dylan Evans, Amber McCullum, Brandy Thompson, Shynayia Bender, Ashland Collins, Zach Walker, Doug Lofton, Dylan DeRosia, Devin Pinkerton, Kaci Bryant, Mason Walley, Kristen Phipps, Carr McMorris, Micah McDaniel, Cocoa Bender, John West, Brandon Hetrick, Kayla Shelby, Madison Woodrow, and Erin Blackledge.

National Library Week

The Friends of the Library hosted a book signing with a local author during National Library Week. Dale "Keith" Moore wrote his first book entitled "The Day I Killed Sasquatch". Friends and family members enjoyed Keith telling about his inspiration for the book. Keith stated it took about eleven months to write the book and eleven months at the publisher. National Library Week is observed April 8th thru 14th. Please go by your local library and see what is available. If you are interested in becoming a member of "Friends" give your name and phone number to a staff member and someone will contact you.

Garden Club News

The Taylorsville Garden Club members are making plans for a flower show. The event will take place at the home of Mitch and Holly Blakeney on April 26th. The public is invited from 3:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. to view the floral designs interpreting "The Best of Mississippi- Mississippi Icons". Mitch and Holly’s home is located at 10134 Hwy. 531 Taylorsville.

Flags Donated by Woodmen of the World

Woodmen of the World representatives from Taylorsville presented the Mayor with flags on April 2, 2012. The flags will be used at the ballpark, town hall, fire department,and library. We appreciate the donation of flags to the Town of Taylorsville.

Keith Moore Book Signing

The Friends of the Taylorsville library is inviting the public to a book signing by a local author. Dale "Keith" Moore has written a fictional novel entitled "The Day I Killed Sasquatch".

Based in part on family stories told by his father, Keith weaves local folklore and history into an exciting and whimsical story that draws readers in. Please come by April 10th at 3:30 P.M.

Position Announcement for Police Chief

The Town of Taylorsville, Mississippi, is seeking a highly motivated person of good moral character with communication and leadership skills to assume the duties of Chief of Police.

Applicants must be a high school graduate or have a G.E.D. equivalency, and hold a valid Mississippi Driver’s License with a clear driving history. Applicants must have successfully completed the state-administered Law Enforcement Office Training Program and have a minimum of five years law enforcement experience.

Applicants will be subject to an intensive background check and must have no felony convictions. The successful applicant must also pass a complete medical examination.

The position of Police Chief is a salaried position, and the pay is negotiable based on experience.

The successful applicant will be subject to a 90-day probationary period to attain permanent employment. Upon successful completion of the probationary period, he/she must establish residence in the city within six months. Group medical, dental, life insurance, and a tax-deferred savings plan are available after 90-days successful employment.

The Taylorsville Rotary met on Thursday, January 19th at the fire station. This meeting "Preparing for Natural Disasters" was presented by the American Red Cross. The guest speakers were introduced by Red Cross volunteer Larry Robinson.

Mayor’s Message

Our meeting was held on January 5, 2012 at 6:00 P.M. I called the meeting to order and Alderman Ray
Lancaster gave the invocation. The minutes were approved from last month’s meeting. The claims
docket and the misc. claims docket were approved.

Our grills for the pavilion have been delivered but we are still in need of one more donation. The
Taylorsville Rotary Club purchased a grill this past Thursday. Anyone wishing to use the grills must
contact the Town Hall. A new “Stop” sign will be installed on Central Street and Forrest Street. You need to
be aware of the additional sign and remember to come to a complete stop. The remaining street signs
will be installed this month, also.
