GRANT RECEIVED::
The Town of Taylorsville has successfully applied for a Community Development Block Grant (CDGB) through the Disaster Recovery Program. Application has been approved by the Mississippi Development Authority for the repair of the Watkins Museum in the amount of $152,305,36.

Solar Group, Inc., located in the Taylorsville Industrial Park, is undergoing
construction to accomodate a business merger that makes Solar the largest mail
box manufacturer in the USA. The building will be a 100,000 sq ft expansion. Solar Group, Inc. manufactures a complete line of residential mailboxes,
mailbox posts and mailbox accessories in a variety of materials including: brass,
satin nickel, cast aluminum,aluminum, plastic, galvanized steel and cedar. |

Students at the Smith County Adult Education Center located in the the old National Guard Armory in Taylorsville receive individualized
instruction to meet their own needs by Merry Beth Tigert, adult education Basic Skills instructor.
Jones County Junior College provides
a valuable service for the people of Smith County. An Adult Education Center is located in the old national guard armory on Hiway 28 East of Taylorsville. Adult Education teacher is Merry Beth Tigert of Laurel. Enrollment continues to increase as citizens become aware of the services provided by the center.Among available services are GED preparation, work skills upgrades, and pre-employment preparation.

Adult Education Programs offer training that will enhance one's opportunities in obtaining and retaining employment. Most employers require a high school diploma or GED. These programs assist individuals with first obtaining a GED or improving their basic skills, and then progressing to other types of training that make one more employable.
GED CLASSES
GED classes are designed to start individuals at their current level of learning and progress to the level required to obtain the GED. There are no tests to pass or fail. When one enters the program, an assessment is administered to determine the level of functioning in reading and math. The program is designed so each individual will be working on the materials he/she needs to prepare for passing the GED test.
